Mimic Farms is developing a perennial polyculture Agroforestry system that imitates the Beech-Maple-Basswood plant community native to our region.
Our primary focus is on employing solutions that mimic nature on a hyper-local level. This approach promotes soil health, increases biodiversity, and regeneratively produces high yields of nutrient-dense food, while establishing an ecologically resilient system that is adaptable to a changing climate.
We are primarily growing Hybrid Hazelnuts and Chinese Chestnuts, which are related to the Beech (Fagaceae) and American Hop Hornbeam (Betulaceae) family of trees that thrive abundantly in the soils surrounding our property. Additionally, we are testing a small planting of Pawpaw, to assess its growth and compatibility within our region.
Mimic Farms is the first enrolled agroforestry carbon sequestration project in Michigan.
